Game story
The game shows us the hero, Sakamoto Ryoma, during an era of injustice in ancient Japan, which lived a harsh period, especially in rural areas, between 1853-1867 AD, and this era is called “Bakumatsu”. Our hero here is not a figment of the author's imagination. Rather, Sakamoto Ryoma appeared in Kochi Prefecture. In previous generations, his family was a wealthy family.
Sakamoto's goal was to get rid of the injustice that befell the city of "Kio" with his samurai skills, which were feared by many of his townspeople. The thing that constituted a great strength in the formation of the character are the obstacles that he was going through throughout his life, from losing his brother for several years and entering into some hard work until he grows up as a well-known samurai in the town.
If you've played Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami, you've probably felt overwhelmed by the many names and groups vying for control of the nearly endless underworld. The reason for this complication is that the game comes with a diagram showing the characters and their relationships with each other, especially since it is a largely historical Japanese game.
However Like A Dragon Ishin offers a fresh start by moving the story to a dramatized version of historical events during the 1860s. If you ever get confused you can always refer to any historical reference as I did to understand who the “bakufu” were or why the “shishi” opposed them. This is what I generally like and it makes me feel like watching a documentary with a very special flavor.
playing style
I'll start with the main missions which are incredibly cool and remind me of the original Japanese gaming era on PS3 for example or earlier. During my entry into the story I had the ability to use weapons and swords in combat, which is a change from the traditional weapon use of the Yakuza series where weapons are only used occasionally. This is a huge improvement that I hope to see in the series in general.
Since our main hero is of course a samurai, swords are an essential element of the game and can be used interchangeably with guns providing great gameplay flexibility. But there is a style called Wild Dancer that blends the two weapons, providing players with a new level of versatility in combat.
If we move on to the skill tree, here is the problem.. It's easier than I expected and it's basically an RPG game, so I get bored from time to time fighting because I buy all the moves and there's no real challenge unlocking most of the skills.
Most Yakuza games have always had mini games or short side missions, farming, wood breaking and fishing in Like A Dragon: Ishin! It has the power to make you obsessed with the Japanese atmosphere but only at first..but I had to do these chores to get some money so I could get some food to recover my health.

- A great story with very good dialogue that makes me eager to engage in side dialogues with the world's characters.
- Hats off to my voice acting, I never changed the dialogue language in the game from Japanese until the very end.
- Movement and dodging mechanics are much better than the original version.
- Good variety of weapons and flexibility to use any of them.
- A fighting style that reminds me of old Japanese games like the Way Of The Samurai series
Game cons
- Slightly long dialogue scenes.
- Easy to get skills and upgrade without even concentrating on it.
- Side battles are often compulsory as soon as I pass by them.
- Side missions are limited and don't have the same ideas as main missions
